James Halliday rated Langmeil Winery 5 stars Australian Winery & James Lindner – Baron of The Barossa
Family owned and operated, Langmeil is believed to be the home of the Barossa and Australia's oldest known surviving vineyard planted to Shiraz in 1843, where the iconic 'Freedom 1843 Shiraz' hails.
Although it is only 14 vintages since the Bitter and Lindner families re-established the abandoned winery, Langmeil has had considerable success and has been awarded 'Five Star' rating in the James Halliday Australian Wine Competition’s 2006, 2007, 2008 & 2009, placing it amongst the very top echelon of Australian Wineries.
James Lindner was inducted as a Baron Of The Barossa. The Wine Fraternity was founded in 1974 by a group of influential wine industry personalities, leading figures from Barossa Valley wineries. The objective of the organization was primarily to promote the Barossa Valley and its winemaking and grape growing industries in particular. The constitution of the Wine Fraternity sets down a number of aims including preservation and maintenance of heritage, traditions, standards and public interest in Barossa wine.
James was acknowledged for his considerable contribution to the Barossa for over 20 years and shared his special night with the induction of another James, the one and only Mr. Halliday. Well done James and ‘Glory to the Barossa’.
